REBOOT Your Life Previews Preparatory By Stanley Wanlass Searching In your searching, don’t always be too quick at finding or expecting answers; they may be too rigid or certain and possibly too soon. Perhaps, (sometimes) it’s better not to find the answers immediately; let it brew for a while and blow in the wind. Not only is there a chance that you may not be ready for the satisfaction of just knowing, but the answer may not be complete and may even be destructive, not worthy of even a cursory search. Generally, I believe that knowledge is better than ignorance, but timing, the where and when can enhance the flavor of discovery. It may be preferable not to touch your dreams fully. The above is the opening paragraph of a strong, insightful writing prepared to support what’s here for you. —Author Backstory Stanley Wanlass, Professor Emeritus, BFA/MA/AFAS, has taught at numerous universities in the United States, Canada, and abroad, including the European Art Academy in Paris and the Université de Grenoble, France. He’s an internationally known sculptor, designer, and painter. He also creates heroic bronze historical monuments. www.stanleywanlass.com Previews of Content Perspective “Feel all your cares being taken by the sea.” It’s within your power to go there in your mind; to imagine, feel, and “watch” your success as if it were real time. “Each pass, each wave” is a time of learning and a reflection of your courage. Heart . . . A reminder to listen to your heart . . . You Are “Your heart your wealth Your dreams your reward” Thank You An example of the advantages won by taking those words that speak to you further inside and noticing how they impact you. And accepting the results without self-judgment when they suggest expanding thoughts deeper. Introduction Trust your intuition and instincts to choose your feelings, the desired results, and what to read for success. It’s a process; genuine change is created in its own time. Hope Proverb: “It is human nature always to find fresh cause for optimism.” However, sometimes even the boldest, bravest, and most fearless must look again to re-discover their threads to hope, search deep inside their gut, reclaim their faith, and recall their courage, willpower, and inner love—who they really are. The Poet “Thank you for your courage, For seizing the moments, facing the turmoils, And coming to stronger.” Insights: Ten Insights for Understanding, Support, and Advantage Ten insights and an introduction ; each designed to combine and expand greater mental advantage, broader insights, and deeper understandings to support your choices for new inner growth. They're building blocks to renewed hope, joy and celebrating yourself. Excerpt: Skipping Stones Imagine skipping stones across the water. First you choose the best stone you believe is right for the job, or you pick one at random. Next, you throw it in a direction and in a way that you also choose. The stone skips once, a few times, or it’s the “winner” with many skips over the waves before it dives in. Task completed. Success comes after one or many tries; regardless, you don’t give up. Being New “The power to be new: Scratch for it, dig for it. Nothing can stop you. Who said, you can’t.? Your wholeness awaits with all your truths.” Who Cares? Who could care less on another given day or time? However, for today, which thought or question gets your attention, draws you in, and grabs you for more? Which writings cause you to rethink old beliefs or start a new course of action? Excerpt: Who Cares? By David W Sweet What does it take to notice thoughts? What thoughts are obscure, while others fleeting? Which are stubborn, nagging, or non-supporting? What thoughts are felt with ease, at your command anytime? Which bring inner smiles, joy, and awakening? Where does caring start? Is there a price to pay for caring? In regard to noticing our reactions, is that caring? When we choose caring, what happens? Edge of Courage The edge of your courage is defined by you. There are six more paragraphs; which reflect your feelings and thoughts? Which could be catalysts to find your truths? Pete Grignon, CFO, United Way Pierce County: “When I find myself scattered and needing to center myself, the poem Edge of Courage brings me back in focus and gives me the strength to move forward.” Badlands Bob Badlands Bob, his own man, is thrown several “curveballs” by Nell, his neighbor across the gulch. It’s a “bad night” for Bob . . . how does he hold onto his survival? Always Can our hearts ever hide? How do love poems strike a cord? Is it only those times when we remember that the human heart is about more than just pumping blood? Faith Darkness, Courage, Hope, Expectancy, and Celebration . . . which raises your curiosity to explore, to question what you’ve read, or to expand your thoughts? All the while, hold the thought in your mind that your answers will come. Excerpt: Darkness If your light side isn’t present Or feels beyond reach, Allow yourself the darkness. However, you have the power to notice And to hold this condition as temporary, Knowing deep down that it will pass. Courage Inside, you are all–powerful. Take notice of anyone speaking to Or treating you in the negative. No matter how hard they try, Stand unavailable for any abuse. Miracles and Hope Where do miracles start, i.e., before or after hope? In your memory, how close at hand are your times of hope? Do miracles lead to joy? Does hope? Anything else? Life Is on Time You can read this two ways: 1. Go down the left column, then down the right. 2. Read the left paragraph then the corresponding right paragraph. How would it feel to erase all outdated beliefs and thoughts? Rafting Mind What circumstances and beliefs must be available for us to forgive? How does forgiving work; i.e., how much energy does it take not to forgive? Excerpt: Rafting Mind By David W Sweet Though it’s peaceful, my mind grasps little. I see a life raft gently floating in the ocean; up and down, sometimes sideways, going with the waves. The view takes in part of the raft; the rest is just ocean. It’s not rough today, just rolling; continuously. You Can! How does it feel to mentally picture the flame? What thoughts or beliefs surface to be burned? How do joy and laughter circulate within you? It’s your power! Who’s to Say? Does paragraph eight say it all? What’s the scheme, the labyrinth that you’re seeing for yourself? For the life you choose to create, what thoughts give support? White Noise What’s real? What’s not? What’s in between mental smoke screens and mirrors? How does intuition work? What brought a response? What’s telling, mirrored? Focus The author once spent time with a veteran who had PTSD. The veteran explained that, no matter how hard he tried, as a result of the drugs prescribed in his recent past, “I couldn’t find the bottom of my mind no matter how hard I tried.” Addictions In the Preface, David didn’t explain his past chemical addiction to nicotine. He recounts that “at 36 years old, and having tried to quit several times, the seriousness of it began to sink in. I realized I had no choice. So, I dedicated quiet times each day imagining, picturing how I’d look and feel to myself not smoking, and how I’d look and feel being in the world being free of the addiction. I felt and imagined the smallest details that would be changed for the better. I was owning it and anchoring it to my very soul, to be a new part of my being and my existence. Fear is a great motivator. It took perseverance and a lot of noticing, and it always came down to a conscious rejection of what my body was wanting. The more you notice, the faster you’ll notice . . . that’s building real, inner power!” Excerpt: Addictions, Breaking Free, Reclaim Yourself Premise I: “People avoid their own fears because they believe that their fears will swallow them up.”* Addictions They unlock the fog, and pound nonstop at you in the void. They take the light, the lead, and run away with your mind. They mask what they do and hide the consequences so well. A carefree numbness plays with your attention. The shadows call in darkness: gray goes black, and thoughts arrive under wet blankets. Hard-Core, Clearing and Releasing In regard to the concept of mental Malpractice Explained, self-empowerment and prevention don’t ever get more basic to achieve and gain advantage. You can accomplish this and set results in motion in sixty seconds or less! World leaders and CEOs, as example, may tend to age quickly; they’re lightning rods for hate and other ill thoughts promoted by their opponents and enemies. What does it take to practice this concept each day and keep yourself “clean”? What would it take for this practice to become a habit? Trial and error? Commitment? Promises to self? Intuition championing you? Writing goals down? Four Easy Steps to Calm, Center There are known variations of this concept. However, the author spent time with a Qigong master, which is the origin of the tongue placement in this breathing technique. He explained that “it’s just like turning on a light switch.” Inner Peace Excerpt: “Hand to Heart” Try this when feeling stressed and off balance. Use it when you want to slow, calm, or center yourself, and experience more inner peace. 1. Place your hand over your heart. Threads to Hope and Joy What supports you to imagine and feel yourself climbing out of a dark mental hole? Believe you can! Recall your blessings, joys, celebrate hope, and anticipate! Rebooting, Re-Energizing How big is the test of willpower to dig deep, to find answers? Which questions come easiest, and which surface past hurts dodging behind practiced avoidance? What thoughts stand in the way? Will facing the tough ones overwhelm? Baby steps . . . and behold! You are human. Excerpt: Piercing the fog to re-energize Impatience and living in disappointment are bedfellows; they dance together. If we’re not in charge of the blackness, what allows us to walk through it or to turn our backs on it? However, assuming we are in charge, is there a toll to pay, or is escaping free? Is anything ever left behind? How powerful is choice in these matters? What does hope look like? Winter How many ways can we look to Nature for inspiration? For truth? How does Nature provide the metaphors and support for our challenges and discoveries? Releasing Resentment, Mental Forgiveness How much of life is about learning? The author manifested painful sciatica as a result of negative self-talk in regard to resentment. While being tasked with a specific job and being the only one qualified at the time,“I repeatedly thought to myself and held the task as ‘a pain in the a _ _! As a result, over a period of months, my body had heard all the negative self-speak, felt how I was holding it, and obliged by making the pain very real. Living proof that what you say and think to yourself will manifest metaphorically.” David went on to say, “It took me a while to search my mind and connect the ‘power’ of my thoughts to the real condition I had created within my body. This writing was created to assist in the process of healing for anyone harboring resentment for whatever reason.” Excerpt: Releasing Resentment, Mental Forgiveness By David W Sweet Thoughts Options: run away and start over vs. manage our thoughts and energy. We may not be in charge of the dark or hard times, however, we can entrust ourselves to face it, and walk through, past, or over it. Hope is always there, sometimes we just can’t hear it or feel it. Choose hope: anticipate, expect, and allow it. Facilitating Self-Discovery and Change: A Tutorial By David W Sweet Here are concepts, methods, scenarios, and mental tools to get down to it, to break mental logjams, and checkmate any outdated thoughts on the way to self- discovery and a new self-assurance. Welcome, feel, and celebrate the difference you’ve made. Right Timing The open door to the mind may seem unattainable unless you knock hard and often; however, the slightest touch to the “right lever” can open to a wealth of hidden blessings. — David Sweet Excerpt: Concepts Choosing to inquire includes searching for the reasoning behind a belief; pursuing deeper, broader introspection and inner self-observation; or just looking for insights and ideas—brainstorming within yourself. The methods explained below will assist you to expand and deepen self-discovery. You’ll be allowing and watching your intellect and intuition at work. The Goal The goal is to achieve greater self-awareness—to discover what belief systems you operate from. Ask yourself: How does my belief system process? What beliefs that I act on are no longer in my best interest? What belief systems do support me? Examine your judgments, reactions, fears, feelings, logic, and discernments. Peel it all back and question. Take your time. Affirmations and Assertions (page xxx) will assist. Advantages You can discover how you’re mentally processing internal thoughts, including what’s behind how you perceive yourself or what’s driving you to act a certain way. In addition, you can focus on how you’re processing or interpreting external events. Advantages of Affirmations and Assertions Hint: Hitting the ground running each day with a quick reading or recital of any of these, or as example, “I’m grateful!” doesn’t do it, period. Center yourself, quiet inside, say them (or whatever you choose to create) to yourself, think them, use prayer, then picture how the results look and feel. This combined process both anchors it within and calls in whatever you choose for yourself. It’s not a casual walk in the park; however, anticipate and expect in your heart and soul that you will succeed. There’s no getting around it; you must make it as real for yourself as possible. There are no shortcuts to laying bare your soul and going for it. Who you are with your feelings and inner visualization is a display of real power. No one can package what you have and resell it to you; it’s all yours already. It’s your choice to harness your courage and fortitude, to persevere toward achieving. Affirmations and Assertions Categories Starting, Truth, Allowing, Clearing, Goodness, Joy, and Resilience . . . you choose. Mix and match or create your own. With prayer or without . . . go! Instructions for My Choice Step by step instructions on creating for yourself, inner and outer. Soul-searching first, then articulate and follow the process. You can manifest it all here. Clearing Gratitude, Courage, Complete, Losing Time, Statement, What’s Real?: All options of how one can hold life’s events. How will having real advantage feel? Excerpt: Gratitude A part of gratitude is noticing the essence of that which presents itself to each of us. What determines the timing? What's Real? If someone is trying hard to sell you on being fearful, ask yourself if it’s intended to divert your attention or cloud your awareness. The Sea How does the sea lift our spirits, diminish our heartaches, and leave itself deep in our beings? Does it start with us or with its power? Which feels right? Or . . . ? The End

Chef Robert Teddy When Food Network invited me to compete on season five of their popular show Halloween Wars, I knew I was in deep! Five teams of three contestants would each battle over five episodes for a grand prize of $50,000. (There was no prize for finishing second.) When my team met for the first time the night before the first episode, you could have literally sliced our combined anxiety with a chef’s knife! “Focus on your teammates . . . no one else exists,” I explained. I asked my team simply to not look at any of the other competitors, and then asked them to do something special for me. Just as they awoke, while still in bed, I urged each of them to list all the wonderful things in their life that made them feel grateful, and to thank the universe out loud. Then I directed them to visualize us winning, as if it had already happened. There could be no question of our team going to the finale, winning the grand prize, and celebrating all the dreams that the prize represented! WE WON! We actually surged to the finale and then won! Those steps we took to focus our energ y and suggest the outcome to the universe I credit to David Sweet and the life strategies that he teaches. As David says, focusing on success and telling the universe what you want leads all those distracting negative worries and anxieties to fade away. His techniques solve life’s endless stream of problems and enhance the chances of getting the answers to our conflicts, problems, and challenges, and ultimately, the results we seek . You are a visionary, and I believe there are many others awaiting your wisdom. Regards, Koni Backstory By “coincidence”, I had met this client several months prior. Sometimes, and for whatever reason, our whole world caves in. Upon query, this client-to-be was, at that time, “down to the last thread.” Lynn Di Nino, Artist Tacoma, WA July 18th, 2011 Dear prospective client of David Sweet, In 2007 I approached David for help regarding my art business. Although I’d been a professional artist earning a living by commissions and gallery work for over 30 years, the work had dried up and I needed guidance from someone I’d heard had a good reputation. We met twice, first in order to establish my vision for what I needed to accomplish and to acknowledge my skill set for a possible career shift, and then for the practical hammering out of new direction. David helped me focus on steps to create a slightly different approach. He was insightful, knowledgeable, creative and efficient. I really appreciated his balance of listening and suggestions of options. I needed his outside perspective and for an independent person like me he approached my challenges with exactly the right tone. I recommend him! Sincerely, Lynn Di Nino Backstory: Lynn Di Nino Telling Lynn Di Nino that anything could not be accomplished would be like trying to block out the sun. Coming to Tacoma in 2001, she has been a tour de force in the growth of the art community and public awareness. Lynn has been directly responsible for creating, organizing, and facilitating more than a few city-wide events for the benefit of the arts, participants, and onlookers—a good time had by all! Her creativity never stops! El Gaucho 8-3-03 For any individual or group seeking the guidance and perspective of an individual or team coach I would recommend the service of David Sweet. In a recent quarterly meeting with my staff of 50 people David brought to the surface some important topics that related to the quality of the service we provide our customers, and at the same time struck a cord with many of my staff on a more personal level. As a testimonial it is difficult to articulate how important David’s presentation was, but the most tangible attribute is the establishment of a healthy culture in and out of the work place. I have also been taking advantage of David’s calm guidance and perspective in a one-on-one coaching program he has devised, and have had great success in my communication with my staff and my supervisor. All in all I would highly endorse David as a capable and valuable coach. Respectfully, Troy Christian General Manager El Gaucho Tacoma 12-9-2003 To Whom It May Concern: This letter shall serve as an outstanding reference for David Sweet as a mentor and personal coach. David has been my personal coach for the past six months, and in that time has helped me to recognize many new opportunities in both my personal and professional life. David and I have only begun to scratch the surface of thought forms and their impact on all of our lives. With patience and David’s continued perspective, I am confident to unlock more powerful tools in my quest for personal happiness. Without sounding too ethereal and euphoric, I can say that as a business professional David’s insight has been very centering and refreshing. I can see outside of the box that I did not realize I was in. I fell very confident in recommending David’s service in any endeavor he pursues. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions at : El Gaucho (253)272-1510 Sincerely, Troy Christian General Manager El Gaucho Tacoma B ackstory: El Gaucho Troy Christian was the manager at the El Gaucho restaurant when it opened in Tacoma. The El Gaucho reputation was one of being at the top of the very best for fine dining in the Pacific Northwest. Troy first hired me to speak to his employees at an annual event he held for his staff. Prior to doing so, and as part of how I see my job, I interviewed his “captains”, wine stewards, cooks and some of the waits staff to find out which subjects would bring them real substance to take away. I decided on a few appropriate readings from Stones, Winds and Life, spoke on the advantages of empowering language and used metaphors familiar to them to introduce change and empowerment. Subsequently: The correspondence above speaks for itself One of Troy's goals was to start and own a successful restaurant. He soon accomplished that and has gone on further to greater success. To those considering working with David: “One of the reasons David’s coaching can be so effective so quickly is his ability to trace a current issue or stuck place to the underlying thought that no longer serves a helpful function. For example, a thought that was protective at an earlier stage is now restrictive and limiting. David crafts an affirmation, a new affirming thought, to practice and replace the outgrown one. Th ese insightful affirmations support breakthrough, creative action and continued growth . ” Jennifer M. Sumner, M.Ed.,Ph.D. Organization Effectiveness Consultant and Executive Coach Backstory Jennifer worked for a Fortune 500 company. The company flew her to assist in trouble shooting and general coaching of various world wide teams. She worked with this author weekly for over twenty two years. This author still works with her every three months or so for learning, strategies, and once in a while, a “check-up.” David, I have not forgotten the request to describe my experiences working with you to date. This morning I was finally able to start to put my feelings about it into words. This my be random – hope it helps As an FYI - I had a strong urge to buy your poetry book that day in your office – However did not open it until the morning we were scheduled to meet for coffee. I immediately felt a connection to you . . . and somehow at coffee that morning this began. Working with you is Empowering! You don’t provide me with answers – you ask me the right questions . . . . I feel a confidence I have not felt before. I feel a clarity. I tend to be going a lot of directions at one time and I am feeling more focused. I am at a major crossroads of my life and I feel that working with you is amplifying the possibility. All for now. . . . Karen Orr Backstory Karen is a success in the mortgage business and actively engaged to help people succeed whenever possible. Subsequently I also worked with her on a project for a local rotary club that was undergoing no small transformation. With Karen, it is always heartfelt. Thank You David, You know . . . I do remember that day some time ago (2 years??) when I mentioned to my sister that I was feeling really low, about my job, my boss's treatment of me and just generally me.. I still have my four statement (I called it a mantra) done in multiples of 3 every day at different times in my personal kitchen drawer just in case I sink again. Truly that 10 minutes in your kitchen made a most positive difference in my life. I will always be grateful. Kathy Kern Backstory Kathy was in charge of the emergency ward shift at one of the areas largest and best hospitals. To compound the general tone of it, emergencies came in from all over Washington State and Alaska for serious trauma, add to that the homeless and destitute. To those with soul awareness: I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with David over the past 2.5 years. Our partnership began on a business level, where I worked directly with him in creating research and strategic marketing plans for his condominium project in Tacoma, Washington. Over time, our dealings grew into a positive exchange of life, love, spiritual healing and self-growth. I made a life move from Seattle to San Diego, California. David has played a consistent role in assisting me in remaining grounded and open in my time of transition. He is an enlightened, insightful, calming influence, who is able to see me objectively and allow me to see myself clearly. He continues to provide a soulful approach to my life and I am grateful and happy to convey this to others. I know, feel and believe he is a kind, intelligent, spiritual, and objective counsel who can provide others with gentle support, healing, and guidance in their life adventures. May you be blessed to encounter David on your path. Kelly Berger Backstory Kelly moved to California and subsequently, “retired” from advertising and marketing. She now owns and operates a successful (yes, very!) dog walking enterprise. Kris, Referral Thank you for all your thoughts, energy and encouragement to life! You have helped me through some very difficult times! May this be a start of our new life to become!! Backstory Kris was an accomplished business woman who went back to college at over sixty years old and now has a PhD. in Artificial Intelligence. (Bravo Kris!) Thank You! Hi David: I copied the lines below from Hard-Core, Clearing and Releasing. from: Reboot Your Life These are the ones that really spoke to me. Thank you for writing them! Life can be so hard sometimes; it’s good to be reminded of our intrinsic worth and our right to be whole and healthy no matter what others think or say or do—not to mention what we think, say, or do to ourselves! Leslie I release all thoughts and beliefs no longer in my best interest or not supporting me. I’m not available for “something could go wrong” or “something bad will happen.” I release all thoughts that I could have done better or that I failed. I release all thoughts that something’s wrong with me. I let go of any shame for who I am, what happened, or that I survived. I am not available for victim stance. I’m not available for blame. I’m only available for nourishing thoughts that support me. Nothing can stop me from seeing the truth and listening with my heart. I choose that for today and every day, right timing is mine. And it goes on. David “Reality” A Backstory of Amazing Success This client had two jobs and was on his way to achieving a major in music with a minor in business at the University of Puget Sound. The task at hand was to sharpen skills and mental preparedness for the door-to door, cold-calling necessary to sell mobil “flip” phones. (Back then, the “big players” were not yet into mobil phones. The “little guy” still had a chance, and it would be very lucrative for a student working his way through college if he could master the skills to “hit the bricks” and sell 10-15 phones per month.) As part of this specific coaching/training, I required that recaps be written. “Reality” is one such write-up covering sales tools, techniques, and philosophies, honoring self and others, ways to hold thoughts, including that “thoughts are things,” the importance of listening to intuition, and taking the time to reflect. Later, the client sent his quote as a thank you: “Thoughts are like a rudder. Our direction is directly impacted by the ones we choose to keep.” This client continues to achieve success, by all standards, in several fields including business, technical, and music. Current position is developing National Marketing— from concepts, to code, to implementation and training—for a Fortune 500 company. Foreword - f rom Being New “No person, no thoughts, no event can affect or diminish the essential me!” — David W Sweet I don’t know about you, however, during the last few years, I have tried my best to avoid conversations that include dramatic words such as victim, despair, or malpractice. Even empowering words such as resilience, faith, or growth were at times avoided. Over the past twenty-two years I’ve had many meaningful conversations with David. We check in with each other sometimes weekly, and then maybe not for months. We hammer out our recent challenges or share our latest passions; we have become reliable and true friends. David is a straight, yet mindful, shooter, who is never afraid to offer something you may not like, whether a “sharp angle” observation or a life-coaching philosophy. It requires trust and bravery to go into deep dive with David. Warning! This book provides poems; yep, good ol’ real-life, heartfelt, and meaningful poetry. This compilation of David’s work will give you, or someone you care about, permission to carve out the time to learn forgiveness for yourself and/or for others. Or, to have the courage to empathize with those you may not know and extend them grace when others cannot. To make time for these actions is not easy. It requires stamina, tolerance of pain, efforts to tweak here and leaps to pivot there—all to get on a fresh track. These hard-hitting poems are coming to us all in real time, the right time! Open this book when the inspiration hits you. It doesn’t require you to soak it in all at once; just read wherever you open it to. There’ll be one that is meaty and some that are tricky; expect to find that special page that really resonates. Let the words burn parts of your past into new energy. You have full permission to use them as alternatives to self- medicating!! What? you say. Yeah . . . how about allowing powerful words on the next few pages to warm you up, to give you some feeling back in your heart, fingers, and toes? Let’s get that tingle of inspiration back so you’re manifesting new beginnings. No more day by day, but more of a shift by shift out of and away from the past that serves you no more. David’s poems are a modern boost of elixir; they’re antioxidants for the heart and soul. These poems are made for you; they’re made for your family; they’re made for your friends or that coworker you just don’t understand. Let them be a phoenix to another so the rebirth may happen. Our culture is ready for deep reckoning to clear the negative energy and make room for love, peace, and new sh*t. I hope my brother from another mother provides you relief and a newfound freedom! Sloan Hunter Backstory Written ahead for a coming tutorial; appropriate here as well. Thank you Sloan. —David Dear David, I just wanted to share some thoughts we have had while reflecting on our time here at Diamond Belle so far. Initially, of course, we had no idea what to expect. The unknown is always a little scary. However, working with you has been a very enjoyable experience. You have made it easy for us to communicate with you and brainstorm on projects and express ideas. It has been fun to sort of pencil out ideas and plans and put many of them in to place! It’s fantastic to see all those hours of brainstorming and planning come to fruition and how it’s all benefiting the lodge and it’s guests. Sincerely, Trisha and Steve Pomeroy, Caretakers Backstory Trisha and Steve Pomeroy where a great team at the right time with multiple skillsets to manage the Diamond Belle guest ranch for eleven years, right up to the day it was sold by the partnership/LLC on December 31, 2020.The partnership was blessed on all levels to have them. Great people! Backstory Artist Michael Tieman's bronze sculpture “The Poet” Being familiar with each other's philosophy and work, when Michael Tieman asked me to create a writing for “The Poet”, his third sculpture in his series Hands of the Artists, I accepted—A classic “no brainer.” The Universe has its own timing and for both our creating, this was to become poignant. Every so often we checked with the other on progress. At about nine months into it, Michael had had his sculpture done for awhile, however, “she wasn't quite right.” Then one day, he “cocked her head to the side and she was done! A poet with attitude!” During this same period I played with the verbiage, let it sit, went back to it, mused on it, rewrote, paused, edited, however, wasn't satisfied. Finally at about a year, the end result came and the poem “The Poet” was done—Solid! Finished! Our much-longer-to- create-than-usual-period was over. I sent it to Michael, he agreed, and the rest is history. Attached is the brochure for “The Poet” sculpture picturing the finished sculpture and showing the book The Poet . About David David Sweet is one of those writers whose poetry spills out of him constantly, in his work and in his private life. Which is why I asked him to provide feedback for some of my written work. He has offered helpful suggestions that opened creative doors for me, and showed me new possibilities for my writing. Val Dumond Author / Editor / Playwright Backstory Val Dumond has done much to promote equality in written content, and she has done a whole lot to teach, help, and inspire writers whether just they are/were just beginning or seasoned. Thank you Val! “SPOT ON” David Sweet has been an instrumental building block in the success of my personal journey, and financial success of my thriving business. Drawing from his arsenal of keen insight and personal integrity, David has provided me with a clear vision for overcoming the challenges of financial stagnation and individual development. Recommending David Sweet is an opportunity to shout out loud the need for others to hear the calling and consider David as a guide to “spot on" clear understanding. Wendy Edwards Backstory Wendy had started her own decorating company and it was going well. In regard to her genius and hard work, the above speaks for itself. D To whom it may concern: Recommendation for David Sweet’s Advanced Sales Seminar Five years ago I moved to the Northwest to start my own seminar and consulting business. I teach business people how to manage and communicate. I hired many people to market me. These people believed in what I was trying to do but they did not sell my services. One day I was bemoaning my situation to David Sweet. David suggested I enroll in his Advanced Sales Seminar. I thought ,”Why not, I’ve tried everything else." David convinced me I had to do my own marketing. He taught me an honest system of approaching people and selling them on my services. Dave taught me the "4 P’s" that motivate people to buy. He made me practice until I had the skills down, and followed up with daily phone calls to see how I was doing and offer more advice. In the first three months after completing this training I was making more money than in the past two years combined. I recommend his Advanced Sales Seminar without reservation. Ba ckstory The above client had a masters degree, was a licensed counselor and had a very successful track record in teaching those in the medical field how to manage and communicate. In the past he had saved a major national firm over $100,000 with a consulting fee of under $10,000. The cl ient had never been exposed to sales training and the related arts and skills, including finding out what the prospect really wanted deep down. This clients training took 6-8 hours to the best of my memory. The client went from zero to out-of-the-park in skills. One day, two months after completion of training, I got a very excited phone call. This client had been interviewed, used his new training, and closed the deal using the new skill sets. Against overwhelming competition and odds, the client had landed a major consulting job at a local hospital. • Plus Grief Season | Edge of Courage

FAREWELL TO A GOOD FRIEND Grief Season By David W Sweet Does grief ever announce itself? How sneaky it is . . . Just when you believed it was gone, Sure you were in the clear, A part of life you dread Raises its ugly head. It’s not bigger, It is, however, A part of you. Fight it, or give in and Bow to the hollowness. Do you have a choice? When it visits, Words fail its depth; Yet experiencing it Means to live on— To move forward. Can you hold it as such, Honoring the feeling? Can you let it go To slip away In its own time? Does it deserve gratitude, This signpost of life’s shadows Posted for all to see And feel? Does it deserve thanks For reminding us that We are still here? Maybe later— Maybe not at all. © 2011-20 David W Sweet All rights reserved. Goodbye Chances . . . 9-1-1 By David Sweet; to honor all those who died and are still dying. This morning the sun first announced its existence By turning the horizon golden — Wonderful reds, purples, oranges. Then it stopped. For a minute or two the sky was light; However, blank with no color, Just a curious gray, Almost lifeless, Yet heavy enough to ponder, To weigh on the mind. Like seeing liquid in a barrel And something tells you not to Put your finger in it — Leave it alone. Just look; Pass it by. How could the sky be like this? Oh yes, I forgot, It’s a day of mourning. But I really didn’t forget; I just tried to put it someplace Where it wouldn’t hurt so much. But these conditions of man Won’t be buried so easily, Neither within my mind Nor with tears in the shower. Maybe the blank sky Was as a mirror of time, Finding for a moment Nothing worthy to reflect. Maybe the missing beams Were absorbed by the Darkness of fear Or lack of trust. Maybe still, Perhaps the souls who left Received the missing light — Prayers heard and answered, A sign of thanks. Suddenly, as if to end the blink, The wonderful glow of colors returned, Spreading across the sky, Again properly announcing the coming day. Ahh . . . another chance. © 2002 David Sweet All Rights Reserved. Amen By David W Sweet It all comes back . . . is it a thread, a photo, a painting, a shadow, a glance? Remembering a moment: going back in time to feel; recalling the joy and the heart of it all. It stays, it surrounds. It’s not easy at times to call back. The hurt makes itself known; however, it’s yours and it’s meant to be. So thank each, and thank them all for the good, the bad, and the memories. It’s your power to know. You’re made for it and no one can take that from you. Thank you, God. Amen. © 2019 David W Sweet All rights reserved.

Discover David Sweet's life coaching services, tailored to meet your needs. Achieve your personal growth goals with expert guidance. WHO IS DAVID SWEET? David Sweet lives in Tacoma, Washington, with a talented wife and a flat- coated retriever who loves his wife a tiny bit more than him. He attended Lincoln and Mt. Tahoma high schools and graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics. David counts himself lucky to be alive from his street drag racing days in the ’60s and ’70s. David’s Life Coaching Mission Statements: What the Client Needs , They Get at That Time. “Using life coaching skill sets as a framework, my job is to give that person (or group) what they need at the time, whether drawing from my learned skills and experience, or by listening directly to ‘guidance’. It’s most often a combination of the two—powerful, effective, and aligned—to give the client maximum support and direction.” Every Life Coaching / Co nsulting Moment Cou nts Have you ever been to counseling or a similar situation and the feeling comes that, while the person may still be speaking, they’re mental ly “gone”, “checked out”, and not “all present” for you anymore? That’s not going to happen. —David Life Coaching Tenets Celebrated Always ask permission to ask questions Clarify actions and alignment of goals Promote balance and well-being No asking why No leading the witness Trust the coaching process Hold to the client’s agenda Use empowering language Suspend all judgement Champion the client The coach asks the questions; the client has the answers. (Special Personal Thanks to inviteChange, Janet Harvey, Presiden t) David's Life Experiences Bring Authentic Wisdom, Power and Support for your Advantage. Digging Out of Mental Black Holes: David is a published author, consu ltant, poet, philosopher, and motivational speaker who, at one time or another, has overcome Panic Attacks, Nicotine Addiction, Sleep Apnea, Agoraphobia, and PTSD . “Life coaching worked for all of the above with the addition of specialized counseling for the PTSD. Note that various drug prescriptions did little except mask and create ‘fuzzy morning brain.’” David brings the skills and proven methods for facilitating change that he has been taught and/or created out of necessity as life’s challenges arose. At Last, Support Came: No Chance Meeting, Righ t Timing: When all else had failed, “by no small chance,” David began working with a Fortune 500 life coach practiced at “listening for guidance” (as David does now). This listening supports and strengthens the power of the coaching process. “During each of my twenty-plus years of weekly coaching sessions, my specific needs were met.” David explains that “even though the instructions, thoughts, philosophies, or mental tasks to practice may not have been self-evident as valuable, or spoken aloud at the time, I learned to trust the process. I still use private coaching every three or so months to grow, gain insights, and ‘stay tuned.’” DIY Advantages are Here for You: David’s groundbreaking workbooks/tutorials support self-discovery, rediscovering your joy, reigniting hope, or reclaiming yourself—who you really are. You’ll find that there are no extra words; the writings are easy to understand and follow, and the content can always be put to use right away. You can “fake it ’til you make it” to start or you can experiment; treat the message as your very own private, personal oracle. Open any book or tutorial at random and chances are you’ll profit from a new inspiration, or gain additional personal support in an unexpected way. Examples of David's Coaching / Consulting Versatility At one time, David worked with a decorated Special Operations leader, just prior to his next mission. The goal was to facilitate and expand insights into David’s private coaching tools for advantage interacting with others. Another time he worked with a veteran who explained that they had “tried thr ee times to commit suicide. I want to work with you because you didn’t judge me.” Then there was a mother with three young children, jobless, and all living in her then ex-husband’s apartment. She later stated, “I was down to my last thread.” David was hired by a Rotary Club leader charged with assembling a small pilot group to create and facilitate mental techniques to bring an easier, upcoming progression of change for major transitions in Rotary as a whole. Custom questions and affirmations were created and subsequently used. Women inmates at the State Penitentiary in Purdy, Washington were allowed to participate in a work-release program for the “Toys For Tots” annual Christmas toy drive. For two consecutive years, David was invited to meet and work with the women in group sessions. The format was simple and organic: David read from whatever book/tutorial or poetry he felt would be important at the time for that particular group. “We then discussed whatever came up in roundtable fashion. It was always rewarding. Unfortunately, the next year the women were not allowed to participate in any work-release programs due to a change in prison policy.” David also has had occasion to work directly with managers overseeing and employees tasked with answering emergency calls for Pierce County (Washington) United Way’s 2-1-1 program . “David’s Heart of Resilience tutorial/workbook is a natural choice for individual building and keeping morale in any high stress environment.” David carries unsigned “Missing” poems in his car. “When I’m prompted, whether by a ‘gut feeling’ or ‘guidance’, I approach the veteran or maybe the veteran’s spouse, family member, or another ‘brother’. I sign the poem(s) with the name given and finish with a handshake and always a ‘Thank you for serving’. Besides the ‘Missing’ poems that are individually signed to each of the fifty veterans on the Puget Sound Honor Flight , twice I’ve given away six poems in one day. It doesn’t get any better than that.” “Most People spend more time thinking about what they're going to say next than listening to what’s being said.” Confidentiality is a Priority: David explains that confidentiality is important; hence those referrals with no or a partial name only. How Inspired Life Coaching Created Day Starters: David was once hired by an investment group that owned and managed a percentage of a 17-million-dollar, high-end deluxe garage rental complex. Drug dealers an d felons found the facilities lucrative in spite of extensive screening and the groups best efforts. *** Client Goal one: Teach them how to use their thoughts and energy to create the “vibe” to begin attracting only the best tenants. Simply put, change the overall energy of the complex so that the bad guys no longer were noticing, attracted to, or choosing to rent. ***Client Goal two: They were choosing to have instruction in solid, life changing skills particular to each in order to address and achieve new roadmaps in life. Introspection led to inner power. ***Inspiration: David explains that during the process, and after one of the two-hour sessions, it came to him to make a page of affirmations suited for them at that time. The result was “Life Changers I,” which he printed, signed, and gave to each of them. In two days, the group’s leader reported becoming centered and calm from anxious moments in a matter of minutes by remembering the contents and how to use the specific affirmations. Excited, He exclaimed, “David, this is the day starter!” Success : Day Starters workbook/tactical tutorial was born. Quitting Nicotine Addiction: David decided to d efeat his nicotine addiction once and for all at about 38 years of age, having historically quit off and on, one time for as long as seven years. He devised and stuck to imagining, visualizing, feelings, sorting out thoughts and confronting them, practicing acting out, and anchoring all the positive changes, together with facing the reality of knowing that a nicotine habit is not one to go away easily. “It wasn’t easy; however, the key is to never give up.” Leaving Sle ep Apnea: David says, “Drugs never work toward any final solution. For me, they were, at best, ‘to cope’, if you could call it that. Overc oming sleep apnea usually took at least two or three strong beers before I was able to sleep at all. So, I worked with a psychic who could hear ‘guidance’. Through her, I was told that my sleep apnea was a symptom of old hurts and other feelings/bad times trying to get out (i.e., be gone, be healed). Using a simple self-love formula, every time an apnea event occurred, it took about eighteen months to get rid of any symptoms. Done and won!” A Learning Path to “Guide Work,” i.e., to “Listen” “At about 42 years of age, an acquaintance suddenly began ‘channelling’ and writing what came to her in rapid succession,” David explains. “That piqued my interest, so I decided to figure out how to accomplish that skill. Something felt right about learning to meditate, and so my journey beg an. Candles, flames, music, chants, etc. etc., all with zero luck, until one day during the umpteenth time, while laying on the carpet face up, I could feel myself ‘going through the floor’. “Fast forward to a lot of work meditating and creating. T he first time I heard guidance, it was, ‘the coffee’s hot’. Thereafter, the real training began; a lot of mental work and tasks so that, now, when I hear, I act. Period. It’s called ‘going through the wringer’, and/or ‘being in the shit’. However, in my case, all the experiences and life-trials where meant to cement my learning and listening.” Hi David, I've been working my through the copy of your tutorial Day Starters . It always amazes me how eloquent you are . . . just a complete pleasure to "feel" your words. Well, you take car e. Sincerely Edmund New: Coming Written Releases David’s new tutorial, Reboot Your Life , is now ready to be released in eBook and print offering , “Seven Paths to Health, Hope, and Happiness.” Next will be Consider Inquiring , a collection of original poems, sayings, and thoughts that act as catalysts and guideposts on the reader’s journey to self introspection, personal discovery, and positive change. He lays it on the line; no tricks. It’s written in laymen’s terms and doesn’t talk down to you.” Denise M. Coyle, LMFT, CTS, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Trauma Specialist “After 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, I believed I had become quite accomplished in dealing with the problems life throws our way; however, I know that many of my brothers in arms have not fared as well. PTSD has been just one of many problems, and that, along with other issues, has taken so many from our ranks. Now retired, my wife and I devote much of our time to voluntary services. The partnership between the Marine Corps’s Toys for Tots and the Pierce County Crime Stoppers program, which, together in 2015, served more than 18,000 children in Pierce County alone, has been a natural fit. Every Christmas, we contract with the Washington State Department of Corrections for female inmates who assist at the Toys for Tots warehouse in distributing donated toys to deserving children. The ladies who come to us have not only had many diverse problems in their past, they must deal daily with stressful events and incidents inside the facility. Through a narrated discussion with David Sweet, and utilizing his book, Heart of Resilience , we were all able to learn how to deal better with problems in our past and the situations we deal with now. I’m sure the time we spent with David will continue to serve and improve our lives by enabling us to accept the past and better deal with the present to ensure a more successful future. One of the ladies put it simply: ‘ Heart of Resilience will enable me to put the past behind and better prepare myself for the challenges that lie ahead.’ Thank you, David. You have made a wonderful and measurable difference in many lives.” Semper Fi, George E. Gina Schmidt, Store Manager, Design Consultant “Understandable, readable; everything is easy to comprehend. When I got to the part about remembering joy, I’d had such a bad last five to six years, I was a blank . . . nothing. With practices, patience, and persistence, resilience can be learned. "David's Heart of Resilience is easy to read, easy to follow, and no BS. He lays it on the line; no tricks. It's written in laymen's terms and doesn't talk down to you." Denise M. Coyle, LMFT, CTS, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Trauma Specialist "Understandable, readable; everything is easy to comprehend. When I got to the part about remembering joy, I'd had such a bad last five to six years, I was a blank ... nothing. When I went back to it later, my joy started coming back to me." First Responder "If we say you're 'bouncing back,' the idea is that somehow, returning to normal. But nobody ever goes back to the same normal." - MICHAEL UNGAR, RESILIENCE EXPERT "Heart of Resilience has helped me deal successfully with anxiety and pressure as well as any old personal thoughts or current circumstances trying to derail my happiness. I found that I got to know myself better and am now able to achieve a peaceful and safe mindset faster! I've cleared the way to loving myself, forgiving myself, and valuing myself more! The more we love ourselves, the more we are available to others." Gina Schmidt, Store Manager, Design Consultant "One of the ladies put it simply: ' Heart of Resilience will enable me to put the past behind and better prepare myself for the challenges that lie ahead.' Thank you, David. You have made a wonderful and measurable difference in many lives." Semper Fi, George E. Hight, United States Marine Corps (Retired) "Hey David, I was going through some 'stuff' and didn't know how to get through it. It was time to open your Heart of Resilience. I'm feeling better already!" Lisa Duval Hole, 22 years as Senior Compliance Officer, Fortune 500 Company "Resilent people are good at recognizing when they're expriencing anxiety, anger, irritability, impatience and frustration." - JO BURRELL, CO-FOUNDER, ULTIMATE RESILIENCE "We all get bent out of shape sometimes. Somebody or something triggers a reaction, and we do that Jekyll-Hyde or Hulk-like transformation. David Sweet's insightful Heart of Resilience spells out a reliable way to practice returning to our true nature and waking up quickly. There's not a wasted word in the book, so read slowly and let it sink in." Jennifer Sumner, Retired Corporate Consultant, M. Ed., Ph.D. Psychology "Makes you think; I go deep into it. Joy Library brings back old joys and allows you to reflect, and your mind automatically goes to joy. The Awareness Exercise helps you notice who's around you and what thoughts you have; reflections become clearer. I'm going through it slowly, and it goes with me everywhere. When in front of me, it's more tangible. I'm looking at me from the inside." Jeff Winne, District Sales Manager, BSH Home Appliances Corporation

By David W Sweet Go -K art Days This photo was taken on a quiet Sunday afternoon around or about 1956 at Villa Plaza, the original regional shopping mall in Lakewood, Washington. There’s no happy expression on David’s face; he’d been completely caught up in the sound, “fury,” and excitement of the day’s go-karting when it unraveled for him and others in a heartbeat. Minutes before he had sped out of the “designated” asphalt parking area his father had wisely instructed to use for the day’s shake-down runs. Feeling justified and certain for what he believed would be the “high-speed” run of the day, David’s goal had been derailed by an unexpected “whoosh” and a large black mass hurtling across his go-kart’s path a hair’s distance behind him. The math is easy; David came within inches and a nanosecond of being obliterated on the spot—the driver of the big black sedan never saw him. His parents, brother Bill, sister Dani, and a neighbor, Bob, had watched from a distance with no way to judge the closeness or foretell the outcome as they watched the two vehicles converge. A heart- stopping moment for all. David has never stopped embracing feelings of gratefulness and thanks. His question, “For how many reasons was my life spared that day?” can only remain unanswered. The Stark Reality David built this go-kart when he was 12-13 years old, when the craze was just starting and at a time when both money and parts were none too plentiful. Most of the components were scavenged and/or improvised. The angle-iron frame was bolted together, the clutch was barely up to the task, and the Clinton four-stroke lawn mower engine always seemed to have quirks of one sort or another. Still, he would take it to the local grade school—Park Avenue in Tacoma—and run it on the asphalt adjoining the back of the building. Luckily, David lived a short block away, so pushing it home (a common occurrence with often struggling equipment) was not too arduous, however embarrassing at times. Picture This: During those times (was it fate that they always seemed to be there at the same time?) some high school seniors, who lived several blocks away, had designed and constructed their own powerhouse go-kart (how did THEY accomplish that? David wondered). With an engine that roared and huge, super-traction tires, it screamed! Every time they would be running nonstop up and down the school’s dirt playing field throwing up gigantic dust clouds and rooster tails. While the roar of their powerful, tuned machine resonated and echoed off the school building, young David often watched in awe, lamenting his own futile efforts to coax a few more miles per hour out of a suspect clutch and a laboring, under-po wered engine . . . THIS WAS NOT FAIR! Books, Business and Life Lessons Failures? Yes, and flat-broke more than onc e - David Honing Selling Skills: The odds were ten to one: Picture two computer salesmen, including the author, up against an IBM sales team of twenty strong. “We gained by listening and probing until we knew the client’s real motivation and our advantages,” David says. “If we misse d a detail, assumed wrongly, or had not gained our clients’ total confidence, we would have lost.” Real Estate Success with Innovation David’s subsequent real estate career started with brokering raw land and ranches in Washington state. To excel, he developed and innovated extensive listening and probing skill sets for himself and as training for his agents. “All the hard work paid off,” David says. “The twenty-five or so men and women averaged greater incomes per person than any similar company in the state.” David’s tutorial Heart of Listening is a compilation of the author’s personal experiences and training in sales, listening, and life coaching. It’s dedicated to giving you advantage in real time and face to face: general discussions, sales, negotiating, finding hidden motives, third-party influences, and key points of concern. Listening IS the First Part of Real Advantage Davi d's Heart of Listening Creates an Epiphany - Su rprise! David recalls that “as with all my first tutorials/workbooks, I printed each and sold them to first be tried out. In the case of the Heart of Listening , the audience was, by no small chance as it turned out, to be quite successful, each within their own right; e.g., top-tier management in IT, a co-starter/creator of a national business, at least two people achieving eight-figure annual incomes, and a PhD with years of solid college administrative success, and more.” What was a common thread and a “personal life advantage” expressed amongst them? “The more you practice listening, the more you know about yourself.” Random, Growing Up Adventures I celebrate all art and enjoy artist friends. As a youngster, I made model planes and cars, did wood-burning projects, built with Erector Sets, Li onel model trains, Lincoln Logs, carved leatherand bars of soap, built model airplanes, played Army, built toys from scratch, i.e., carved rifle stocks to look real and used pipe for the barrel. My friends and I were “well armed” for playing Army and digging a fox hole, bunkers, etc. We even had real hand grenades (w/o powder), which I personally can attest were still lethal. In one of those episodes, I rounded the corner of our neighbor’s house just in time to be a split-second late for my brother Bill’s excellent throw toward the bunker area. (Bill was an excellent athlete and still is.) My head collided with the missile, which caused a lot of blood, a trip to the hospital, and a few stitches. We made firecracker cannons that shot large marbles down the alley at other neighborhood kids’ tree club house. We also devised smaller cannons using small firecrackers called “lady-fingers” that perfectly fired spent 22 ammunition brass obtained from our father’s shooting practice. Those little cannons worked really well with a small copper pipe. We plugged the back end and drilled an angle hole to insert the little “lady-finger” and then dropped the small spent 22 cartridge into the open end. Boom! It worked every time and was very accurate. So accurate that we found ourselves enjoying the precision as we shot from our back patio all the way to the neighbor’s home across the alley. It was great fun until the police came and took us for a ride downtown in their black and white. From then on we concentrated at shooting the regular marble cannons down the alley toward our neighborhood enemies’ treehouse. It was far enough that the accuracy was suspect, however, somehow it made us feel big. Later on it was go-karting and then cars. PS I built a lot of models with my brother, Bill, and our neighbor, Bob. Then we experimented on how best to destroy them with the most excitement: for example, firecrackers, gunpowder from our father’s 30-06 rounds (he never knew or let on), and various other concocted, destructive, and incendiary experiments, most of which failed. However, once in a while “the gods” were in our favor . . . and that was a good day for all of us. Celebration, and on to building more. The End David's Life Poems o f Reflection: Grave Dreams By David W Sweet How do you dream? Do the cobwebs of your life ever suck you in, grab hold, and attempt to take your mind? Imagine, like an ax falling, your blissful childhood dreams cease and suddenly you’re in a desperate place with no choice a pitch blackness with no sound, a space that becomes smaller and smaller as you spiral down through it—an evil trap. Your being can’t help; there’s no fight available . . . your very soul is seized and compressed in its vise. Your breath is squeezed until there’s no more air, and you awaken with a start— blood chilling, adrenaline coursing through your body like fire. Panicked and gasping for air, your breath will come back, however, the fear and shock stay, and stay, and stay. Your life continues; however, you never know when it’ll revisit to let you know your mind is still well within fear’s grasp. Your soul tries its best to cope however, here and there a puddle of black water appears with no reflection . . . this is your normal world. Hidden memories of abuse and panic die hard. Years pass and you begin to search back, “a simple digging up” of those old memories, or so you believe; only to discover your dreams were exactly what was happening in your very young life at that time. You were being stifled. You were being ripped off; plain and simple, beyond your control. Easy to say; hard to reset, to reverse. So you excavate the coffin shovel by shovel full, bit by bit, until there it is How dare you open me? We’re the adults. We know what’s best for you! Now it’s all yours: pry it open quickly, and stand back for your last look and feel as you release all the mental toxic waste. There, it’s done! The pit’s caved in and collapsing. The open coffin’s crumbling to dust. Bad times and mental torture exhumed! Burn the old thoughts, send them to exile. Go back to the child and give love, compassion, and understanding. The child has no blame. Have an uncle arrive to protect. Let the child know they’re never alone. Feel it all, and claim the new goodness. Turn to the blue sky, the towering maple looking down, birds on the wing; the harmony and support of Nature are alive. A warm breeze gently surrounds and welcomes you as a part of it, welcomes all of you . . . welcome back. Backstory The author had this recurring nightmare as a young child. It reflected what was happening in his life at that time — “ a young soul being squished.” © 2004-20 David W Sweet All rights reserved. Moments of Impact By David W Sweet I had a friend named Mel. The last time I visited him He couldn’t talk much. He sat on the side of the bed, And slowly extended his hand. As I completed the handshake, He squeezed my hand very tightly. I looked into his eyes And knew he was saying goodbye. The little dog knew it was Going to die soon. You could see it in the eyes. There is no learning to this look. I did a bad shot on a deer; It just lay there. I walked up to it to kill it. Before I did so, I looked Into its eyes. After that I stopped hunting. I hadn’t seen one of my oldest Friends for a few years; We’d grown apart. The last time we talked was On the phone. He called me "pal" in a flippant way, "See ya, pal," something like that. A few years later he died suddenly. Then I discovered how much That friendship meant to me, Recalling the adventures, It bubbles up. It still hurts . . . The missing. I had an uncle in the hospital. He could barely talk, However, I know he said, "I love you." He’d never said that before, However, as I think back, He’d shown it in lots of ways. Those words and that moment Are precious to me. We listened to the hunters Explain why the zebra Was one of the eight different species Of animals they paid to shoot on safari (Or rather for a sum of money They were allowed to kill One each of eight designated species). "Zebras can be really Dangerous when provoked. They’re really mean." One of the other animals designated Was a small deer-like creature. The world record for its horn length was (To the best of my recollection of this conversation) Maybe six or eight inches in length. As we all sat pondering this, No one asked how dangerous Those could be. I found myself looking At the rather small stuffed Alaskan bear Amazed at how much it had shrunk Since I first heard the hunting story. People really do good for others, Every day, Many times. © 2010 David W Sweet All rights reserved. How David Began Writing What’s behind the real story, the meat of it, that resonates with the reader’s soul? What about those reminders that life is short, that we can triumph and step over the crap shoveled at us, that we can find the silver linings and come out with positive attitude adjustments and hope? What starts it all? Whether it’s about a painting, a sculpture, a sacred piece of land, an endangered species, a memorial, a tribute, or a timeless love, David Sweet works hard to create verse that achieves the intended (conscious or otherwise) results—with no extra words. His intuition and life experiences add insight. David began as a writer of sales training manuals and advertising copy, as well as a personal life coach and consultant. One night in 1993, he was “awakened” by a muse and felt the need to write more; something was stirring deep in his soul. What he wrote that night was the first in a sixty-five piece collection of middle-of-the-night thoughts and reflections that became his first book, Stones Winds and Life . When he isn’t writing or engaged in real estate, David enjoys constructing, restoring, painting, and finishing. “I enjoy waxing a car or working with my hands anytime for inner satisfaction and mental release,” he says. In addition, David believes “there isn’t enough focus on art in our culture,” so he supports all of the arts, and other artists, whenever possible.
